Decorating Dilemma: Erin’s Dining Room

Choosing pieces for a small, open dining room

Decorating Dilemmas is a weekly column in which our stylists answer your design questions, so you can tackle your home decorating project with complete confidence.

Dear How to Decorate,

Help! I recently downsized into a small 1300 square foot townhome. Most of my rooms are 9X9, and my living space on the main floor consists of what you see in the pictures and a small living room.

I recently remodeled my kitchen and want to get rid of my oversized dining room set. My walls are Benjamin Moore Litchfield gray.

Can you give me ideas for my dining room?

Thanks,

Erin

Dear Erin,

We are happy to help you make your new place a great place! The new wall color looks fantastic! Let’s bring the dining room and kitchen together with color and texture.

We can start with a new round 48”Andrews Pedestal Dining Table in Whitewash. The shape will help with flow in the room and add contrast to your wall color. Around the new table we suggest our Couture Chair with a Mahogany finish on the legs and a Suzanne Kasler Signature 13 oz. Linen Pleated Slipcover in Greige. The profile of the chairs will keep the sight lines open to visually expand your space.

In place of your large china cabinet, let’s try the Louis XVI 63” Sideboard in Dark Mahogany for lots of storage and serving space. Our Crown Sunburst Mirror adds sparkle to the wall and keeps the space light and bright. The Lacroix Lamps on either side will provide beautiful evening lighting. A pair of Oval Louis Side Chair with Aged Brass Nailheads in Fiona Brown on either side of the Louis Sideboard adds some great color and pattern plus extra seating. It also repeats the round shapes we are using elsewhere in the room!

To give pops of color, bring in Basic Pillow Covers in Queens Velvet Chartreuse and the Looking at the Horizon I and II abstracts on the wall. The Deville Indoor/Outdoor Rug, available in a 9’ round, will help to define the space. The Orb Chandelier in Bronze will echo the round shape of the rug and add just the right finishing touch.

Happy Decorating!
