Decorating Dilemmas is a weekly column in which our stylists answer your design questions, so you can tackle your home decorating project with complete confidence.
Dear How to Decorate,
We are in process of completely remodeling the first floor of our lakehouse! This includes two bedrooms (need a king bed in one and possibly two sets of bunk beds in the other), one master bath, one guest bath (that attaches to the other bedroom), the kitchen (need a round table w/chairs), kitchen island with barstools, a family room (needs sectional/furniture/tables/etc), and a sitting room (needs small seating area-maybe 2 chairs that could be used at round table and either a love seat or something of the sort).
It’s a BIG project, we know! We want to create a ‘lake modern’ look and need your help!
Jane
Dear Jane,
What a great space! We love how the layout is so open and easy to navigate. When working on a new home, we definitely suggest a room-by-room approach, making sure you pay attention to the color palette to create a sense of unity and harmony.
Grounding this space with the Catherine Rug will bring in calming blue, green, gray and caramel hues to really set a relaxed tone. Next, we recommend our Orson Reversible Sectional in Basketweave Flax Sunbrella Fabric. This sofa is soft, plush and comfortable – and the storage ottoman is movable – for extra versatility. Our Leyland Armless Chair in Minsk Glacier Fabric adds accent seating without overwhelming the space and brings in some pattern that complements the rug well.
We suggest pairing it with the Durham Round Coffee Table and Morgan Double Wide Low Shelf to give you plenty of space for setting items down. Add in some accent tables, like the Annette Magazine Side Table for accent lighting and the Sonoma Tower for extra storage and a place to display favorite items. Illuminate the room with the Malia Seeded Glass Table Lamp and add a rustic/industrial touch with the Luce 12-Light Chandelier.
Our Big Frog Framed Canvas will serve as the perfect artwork and tie everything together. And, finally, a Ballard Boot Tray will go far toward keeping the space tidy and in order.

Hi! I love your design dilemma series! I sent in my design dilemma over a month ago and I haven’t received a response. I wasn’t sure how to reach out in case it was sent already, but I didn’t receive it!

The rest of my response didn’t complete. Who do I get in touch with to see if it was received or sent. I really appreciate your time and keeping this series going!
