I am so excited to be featured on Ballard Design’s blog, How to Decorate, today. I am a huge fan of their company and so honored to be getting to post here today. This room was so much fun to work on!
When we moved into our new home this past June we were in love with the location and layout of the house. However, the finishes, well, we didn’t quite fall in love with them. Over the past several months we have been removing cabinets, changing out light fixtures, having wallpaper removed, replacing appliances, and endlessly priming and painting all the woodwork and walls. We finally have the downstairs well on it’s way to being updated, so I was quite excited to move upstairs to work on our guest bedroom.
I actually wasn’t sure what direction I was going to go in this room. I had envisioned what I was going to do in our other bedrooms but really wasn’t sure what I wanted to do in here until I saw this new Ballard Designs bedding. Once I saw the Audree Pom Pom Quilt and Shams, I had my inspiration. I completely fell in love with it. I loved all three colors it comes in and was torn on which one to go with. Ultimately I thought the gray would work best with the furniture we were going to use in here and well, I love gray! I also loved the Jardin Toile Duvet and Euro Shams, and they mixed so beautifully with the quilt. For sheets, I chose the Amelie Embroidered Collection; I love how the simplicity of this set plays off the detail of the rest of the bedding.
Once I chose my bedding, it was time to get to work on transforming the room itself. The first thing I did was start priming and painting all the woodwork. I chose Benjamin Moore’s Simply White in a semi-gloss finish and Mopboard Black for the doors, also in a semi-gloss finish. Then it was time to say good-bye to the “pink house wallpaper” (it was actually more of a faded maroon, but my little girls thought they looked pink and were quite sad that we were getting rid of them). In the rest of the house we had the wallpaper removed before I started painting, but in here I decided to just paint right over it. For the walls, I chose Benjamin Moore’s Graystone in a Matte Finish. I used their Aura line of paint because it has a built-in primer.
Then it was time to bring in the furniture. We already owned most of the furniture in here from our last house (the bed, the mirrored dresser, and the silver chest). We did purchase the chair, mirrors and chandelier for this room though.
The room isn’t completely done. We still need to add a rug and some more artwork on the walls, but it sure is a big improvement from where we started! While I am still on the hunt for finishing touches, I’m now busy working on our master bedroom! I am so in love with the Pom Pom Bedding that I’m considering purchasing it in one of the other colors for our bed!
Thank you so much, Jennifer, for sharing this guest bedroom transformation with us!

Love this room! What are the dimensions of the mirrored side table?
Caroline McDonald
Nekenya,
I’m so sorry but I don’t have any measurements for this piece!
Christine Goede
Beautiful!! What a transformation!
Could you tell me where you buy your curtain rods? I’m currently working on a room with the bed in the middle of two windows just like this. I’ve thought of hanging curtains just on the outside of each window. What do you think of that idea? What size diameter do you recommend for the curtain rod – .75 or 1.25 inches?
Thank you
Sarah
I love, love this beautiful bedroom you have created. Where did you find the chandelier?

HI, where is the chair from?
penelope
Good heavens, would it hurt to add a little color to that room? Talk about depressing!

Thanks for your feedback, Penelope.

Just stunning, and so liveable. Can you please tell me where you found the chandelier? It’s exactly what I’d like but I can’t find anything close.

Hi Jenni,
Unfortunately, we do not know the exact origin of this light fixture, but we can suggest something very similar, our Henriette 6-Light Chandelier. Hope that helps!
Best of Luck,

I’ve been looking at the bedding for some time now was not sure on the color. Our room is already the dark grey I’m trying to find out where I can get the silver side tables I can’t find then anywhere. Do you remember were you got your? For my wall pic I’m doing black and white pics on queen Ann lace flowers. You did an amazing job!

So glad you posted this! I’ve been admiring the gray jardin toile duvet cover, and thinking about ordering it. It’s hard to judge from my computer screen though…would you say it’s more of a blue-gray or taupe-gray? And is the background of the fabric bright white or off white/cream? Thank you so much!! I wish Ballard did fabric samples for their bedding, hint hint! 🙂

This bedroom is beautiful! I love the more formal toile print mixed with the more casual pom pom quilt, very much my style. Jen has done it again, no surprise! 🙂
Angie
This bedding is absolutely beautiful! I have been admiring it in the new catalog. The colors and textures are exquisite. The entire room came together perfectly. Everything Jennifer designs turns out amazing.

Thank you so much, Angie!

The bedding is subtle and coordinates beautifully. Dear Lillie is one of my favorite home decor blogs!
(On a side note: The copy for Ballard reads poorly. Paragraph 1, line 2, I think the writer intended to state “slowly” not “slowing”.)

Thanks, Chris! We’re so glad you like our bedding. Jennifer did a beautiful job pulling this room together.
Also, thanks for pointing out the typo. It’s fixed now.
Best,

Is the grey bedding reversible? I really like it.
Jennifer - Dear Lillie
I think the quilt could be used on either side. It is so lovely!
