Decorating Dilemmas is a weekly column in which our stylists answer your design questions, so you can tackle your home decorating project with complete confidence.
Hi Style Studio Team,
I started to furnish my home office and I am stuck!
The room is 18-by-13. The desk and rug are new purchases and I am considering painting a hutch the same color as the walls and using it for storage. It can possibly go behind the desk.
I have purchased curtain panels (a pic of the fabric is below). The remaining pieces: filing cabinet, bookshelves, chair can be incorporated or moved out.
I need help with furniture selection/edit and placement. I need a ceiling fixture and a desk chair and would like a reading spot as well as a kids/craft desk in one of the corners. Need a spot for command center to deal with school papers, etc.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Best,
Jennifer

Jennifer,
With a nice size room, you have wonderful space to incorporate all the task areas you require. With your desk centered in the room, let’s build out your home office from there.
Instead of ditching your lateral file, we recommend centering it between the windows behind your desk. Now perch a Bourdonnais Hutch on top of the cabinet. Our Elle Tufted Chair, popping in Velvet Chartreuse, is a splendid piece for your office chair. Now, we suggest hanging over your desk two Addie Pendants in Celadon … repeating the fresh color pulled from your new drapery panels.
As you view the triple window, consider tucking a Viceroy Chair in the right corner along with our Blake Side Table for an organic whisper. Place a couple of our Courbe Ottomans in front of the triple window for movable seating when needed.
Our Original Home Office collection has unlimited options for setting up “homework central”. We recommend using a corner work station to one side your office entrance and then consider the standard desk on the other side. The fantastic news is that this group comes in a gray finish … working superbly into your color palette!
Keep your existing bookcases and place one in each corner, flanking your desk! Don’t forget to hang Message Boards for homework and art projects. Accessorize with pops of red for an unexpected finish!
Good luck and Happy Decorating!
