Decorating A Wall Of Windows

Decorating Dilemmas is a weekly column in which our stylists answer your design questions, so you can tackle your home decorating project with complete confidence.

Dear How to Decorate,

In our new house, the family room has two sets of three windows side-by-side on top of each other.

The bottom one on the left is very close to the fireplace mantle so there is no room for a panel, which is what I like.

So now what do we do? Do we top just the bottom set of windows with valences or medallions?

I don’t exactly want scarf valences unless it is a really nice fabric. Do we NOT top the top set of three windows?

The best way to handle your double windows is to hang panels but since the space is limited for that type window treatment, let’s consider another approach.

We suggest adding simple molding around the windows to provide a stronger presence on the wall.

To finish off each window, we suggest adding a piece of artwork between the top and bottom windows. A good option is our Vintage Cloisonne Prints. They bring in a sophisticated color palette to the wall.

Working around architectural features can be challenging but thinking outside the box for a solution can result in unexpected and fabulous results!

Hi, we love our high ceilings but how should I bring more warmth to the room. We have space between the windows. I would love to add a picture to show you, but I’m not sure how.
