Decorating A Living Room With High Ceilings

Dear Style Studio,

Our living room has high ceilings with lots of bare wall space to decorate but I’m struggling with how to do so. There’s also the issue of how to incorporate the flat screen television into the decor.

What I struggle with the most is: Do I have to hang art or decor so that the eye goes up or is it okay to only decorate at “eye level”?

I’ve thought of hanging large artwork as well as making collages that include decor besides just art and paintings. I’ve also thought of using window treatments to fix the issue, but that would only fix the issue on one wall.

As you can see from the photos, there are lots of blank walls just begging to be decorated! I look forward to seeing your ideas that will bring life into our living room.

Best,

Emily

Emily,

When there are tall ceilings, you can be conflicted about how to hang art.

Although there are no hard and fast rules for hanging a collage of various art pieces, you certainly want to experiment with placement so your artwork can be seen.

The first thing we would suggest is a good media cabinet. Having a good-looking space for your television will also provide beautiful wall coverage and lots of additional storage at your fingertips.

We suggest the Tuscan group as a strong contender.

Above your fireplace we recommend adding a brilliant piece of artwork that will add color into your space. You could use either one stunning canvas or a pair of equally impressive art pieces.

We suggest trying our Falling Leaves Giclee for a great mantel art piece! Throughout the rest of the room, add pops of the bold colors drawn from this canvas.

We couldn’t agree with you more about adding drapery panels to your windows.  Beautiful panels will soften the hard lines of the window casings and provide a graphic silhouette when you hang our Firenze Embroidered Panels in Chocolate!

In your entryway, consider a single piece by your staircase and then stack 2 or 3 smaller pieces up your long wall. Mirrors are always a great solution for an entrance so you can check your lipstick as your running out the door.

Mirror stacking idea for Entryway

Don’t be afraid to thoughtfully stack art pieces … there is always strength in numbers.
