Living Room Colors and Patterns

Alaina R sofa
Dear Style Studio,

I am building a new home and would like some beautiful and professional decorating ideas.

I love the idea of a slate blue velvet couch, but what colors would go with that? I need accent chairs, accent pillows, window panels and a rug.

What other colors or patterns would go with this couch without making it look to busy. Clean, classic is what I am going for.

I am very neat and want it to look like a page from your magazine.

HELP!

Alaina,

How exciting to start with a blank canvas!

Building a new home is a wonderful adventure with fabulous decorating possibilities! We think using a slate blue velvet sofa is a great inspiration point.

Using this as our compass, we have pulled together a few key pieces as a starting point for a sophisticated room.

Our Catherine Rug is a beautiful rug that resonates a subtle color palette. Add your sofa to the rug and then toss a couple of Vivienne Square pillows to your sofa for a touch of drama.

A great side table for your sofa is our Savon Tray Table in oil rubbed bronze. In this grouping, nestle a pair of our Griffin Chairs covered in Suzanne Kasler Parchment Linen for additional seating.

We suggest tucking the brown Bornova Side Table between the Griffin chairs as a home for a lamp or your drinks.

Because of it’s over-sized scale, Storm Over the Marsh Giclee would be stunning above your sofa as a focal point.

Mirrors are always fabulous in a space and we recommend our Antiqued Mirror Sconces.

Firenza Embroidered Panels in gray are our classic drapery panels with a fresh, modern twist and we think they will be beautiful in this room.

Lighting is a fun element of decorating because you can play around with lamp silhouettes and finishes. For your space, we suggest the grand scale of our Madeline Floor Lamp in washed cream.

Enjoy your new adventure and remember to take plenty of pictures so we can see your stunning results!

Happy Decorating!
