Decorating Dilemmas:

Hi Karen, Caroline, and Taryn,

I hope this finds you well! I absolutely love your podcast and find it both entertaining and helpful.

I have a decorating question for you. I live in a cute one bedroom condo that I’ve slowly been renovating since I bought it in 2014. When I bought it, the previous owner had updated the kitchen and bathroom using cabinet solutions from ikea and a cream/ tan tile blend with gray grout. Since the tile is newer and in great shape, even though it might not be what I would have picked, I am seeking solutions for what might look good with it. I would really like to find a way to add to my kitchen without ripping out the existing tile, so I’ve been contemplating new countertops. I love the look of quartz or white marble but I’m not sure if that would look good with this tile pattern? I am attaching some photos so you can see the kitchen layout and the tile pattern. I’m also attaching a photo of the entry way that is right outside the kitchen so you can get a feel for what my home looks like. I would love to hear any ideas you have for countertops that would complement the existing tile (also used as a backsplash). Budget friendly options are also appreciated 🙂 The kitchen is sort of closed in so lighter tones are likely what I would prefer, and eventually I hope to update the black appliances to stainless steal or something else that would look classy and timeless. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas, thanks ladies!

Best, Erica

We all agree that updating your appliances to stainless steel will help a lot. There are great alternatives to stone countertops like caesar stone. An inexpensive subway tile in a 3×6 on the backsplash is a classic choice, and maybe even try regrouting your tile floor. You could likely do that on your own! You may want to switch out your island for something that isn’t so heavy. Beth suggests something more industrial chic like metro shelving — that’ll also help tie together with your stainless steel appliances. All of these are relatively easy fixes that will make a big impact! Good luck, Erica!

Great interview! Love Beth Webb 🙂 OK, regarding the congestion…This sounds odd, but it’s totally a thing. It may be acid reflux since it only happens at night when you’re laying down for 8 hours. You don’t have to experience heartburn or indigestion, it can more of a “silent” reflux. Your stomach acid can come up into your throat and even your nasal passages and make you feel contested and create a post nasal drip feeling. I learned this from my ENT when I experienced the same thing. Good luck!

      Michele,
Oh my gosh, you are so smart! I’ve actually had acid reflux issues in the past but not recently so you may have answered my question. Thank you so much! Now I just need to figure out how to fix it!

Hi! Your podcast has been a delight to my inner decorator heart. Concerning you waking up congested , I’ll share my experience. I went off bread and dairy several years ago when gluten free was all the buzz. But now when I eat bread I wake up congested. I wouldn’t have believed it but true for me.

      Dee Dee,
Thank you for sharing. I’ll have to try that! I was really hoping it wasn’t anything diet related, but alas, I may have to test it out just to be sure.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the podcast and thanks for your comment!

Hi Ladies- Love, love the podcast! During the last show, when y’all were discussing your glass showers – I found myself yelling “RAIN-X” in my car. So now we All Know I’m crazy. Treat your glass with RainX, just like you would use on your car windshield and the water beads up and washes right off.
And No, I did not figure this out for myself… someone even more OCD than me told me about it.
    Haha
    Take care
