Instructions for assembly wrong. Bed is beautifulThe instructions for assembly are incorrect and the holes drilled for the bolts are too deep but one you get past the assembly, the bed is beautiful. I’d buy it again but I would suggest you have one of your employees actually put one together using the instructions. You will quickly find the faults.

Incredibly beautiful and well-built.I bought this bed a few weeks ago and it was promptly delivered within a week. It's gorgeous, sturdy, and relatively easy to assemble. I'd recommend having at least two people to assemble the bed, but four would be the most useful. It was slightly awkward getting the side rails onto the headboard/footboard with only two people.
My other recommendation is to use a low profile (5") box spring / foundation. I used the virtual chat to ask Ballard if a box spring was necessary. The associate said they couldn't find information on whether or not it was, but was willing to ask another department. I told them not to bother and I waited until I had the bed to see for myself. In my opinion, the slats are too far apart to support a mattress without a foundation so I ordered one the next day. Before purchasing the bed, I read another review which recommended using a 9" box spring but I think that would make the bed way too high.
You want to leave enough room to be able to layer some larger pillows like euro shams (26x26) or slightly smaller (24x24 or 22x22) in the back and still have the headboard show through. If you have a 9" box spring and a 14" mattress (which seems to be common nowadays), you risk blocking the entire headboard (if you plan to layer pillows).
In the photo, my mattress is 11" and the box spring is 5" which I think is perfect. If your mattress is very tall, I'd even recommend a 2" foundation / bunkie board.
Lastly, make sure you take good measurements before ordering if you plan to place the bed in front of a window! I've unfortunately decided to return this beauty because it's not going to work with the height of the window in my room, but if the circumstances were different I absolutely would have kept this bed!

Vintage spool bed - Quality reproductionAlways wanted a spool bed but never found just what I was looking for. Leave it to Ballard's to have one! Shipped fast, heavy, well made - LOVE the look with my Ballard bedding. Many compliments! Used a standard box spring with the mattress. Easy to put together - screws were 1/4 inch to short to add all the required hardware (lock washer).

Hope it last?Bed is very pretty. Looks a little like a baby bed in the off white. The washers and nut/bolts do not work together. Unable to use washers. Bed did have a crack in sideboard. Maybe just the paint.

Great lookVery nice looking bed. I thought it would have a smaller old bed feeling being so open, but it has a very large presence and gives a more contemporary feel than I expected. Seems a little short as I can hardly get sheets on let alone tuck a wool blanket in at the foot, even with the mattress all the way against the headboard.

Pretty bed. Flawed hardware.Agree with both previous reviews that bolts holding the bed together are too short to allow for use of the lock washers. Significant but easily rectified hardware flaw. Ballard should correct bolt length before letting more beds ship and should send improved bolts to those who already purchased the bed.
Also frame is a bit of a tight fit around mattress and bedding.

Stunning Bed but bewareI purchased this bed in black. It’s absolutely stunning and very well made. What brings down the rating is the dimensions on this bed. There is no room for bedding to hang down on the end and extremely difficult to change the bedding with how short the interior dimensions are. The length probably needs to be 2-3 inches longer to allow for easier changing of sheets and a comforter to hang down at the end.
The bed is also very high. I have a Tempurpedic 11” mattress so really not that tall for mattresses these days. Initially I tried to use a 5” foundation based on the reviews people made about the height. This combination of 5 + 11 for a combined total of 16” would have been the perfect height but due to the first interior dimension issue it made it impossible to change the sheets and use blankets, etc. as the bottom of the mattress was below the side rails and spindles. I had to purchase a standard 9” foundation which makes the bed too high in my opinion. Thank goodness I no longer have my old pillow top mattress as that would have added inches more.
The other issues, as pointed out in other reviews, are the directions are not accurate regarding the bolts and the bolts are too short. They need to be about 1/4” longer to get full engagement in the head & foot boards to the rails. I had to back the bolts out a bit for the head and foot boards so that I could use the lock washer and get the nut on. Had I not done this there is no way the lock washer could have been used.
And finally, not product related but service related, shipping was an absolute fiasco and Ballard Design initial communication about the delays was not good. It wasn’t until after much frustration and a supervisor getting involved that I actually started getting the correct “story”. For an in stock product it took almost 2 months to finally get it delivered complete. FYI, this is delivered in two boxes.

Dimensions are off - short.This is an absolutely beautiful bed frame. The color is a beautiful cream. The shape is just lovely. It is very sturdy and was easy to assemble. BUT. It is about an inch too short. Right now I have a very thin coverlet on the bed, and it is very difficult to fit between the mattress and the footboard. There is no room for a blanket, duvet, or comforter. It's so pretty! But the dimensions are definitely just a bit off.

Expensive bed that chips and bolt too shortI put a lot of thought and hard earned money into this purchase. After assembly I have all the spring washers leftover,which means it will end up wobbly eventually, and pieces of wood that chipped. I treated this with kid gloves. I sincerely hope it’s not an indication of damage to come.

Holy heavy brushstrokes, Batman!!I saw this bed in the store while we were in VA. I couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. I ordered it when we got back home and it arrived today. It’s covered in black marks, the paint looks like thick, goopy chalk paint with mega brush strokes, and the bolts are way too short. I couldn’t use the spring washers. Such a bummer. I was so impressed with the one on display!

Worst experience everI purchased this bed over two months ago and still only have half of it so therefore cannot assemble it. I cannot speak to the quality of the bed for this matter, but can state that the customer service I have received from BD has been horrific. The bed came damaged (more than once) and I’m waiting on the sixth delivery attempt. Please save yourself the trouble and purchase a bed elsewhere.

Beautiful but headboard splinteredI purchased this bed last year. It’s only been slept in about 5 times (guest bed) and the head board completely splintered - huge crack down the middle of it. I’m extremely disappointed in the lack of quality in the wood. Especially for the price I paid!
