Standard Return Policy

If you're not happy, we're not happy. That's where our "Love It or Send It Back" policy comes in. If you're dissatisfied with your Ballard purchase for any reason, you can return it within 90 days of the ship date for an exchange or full refund (excluding Shipping & Processing fees).

Items that are clearance, monogrammed, customized, Custom Plus, Customer's Own Material (COM), or made-to-order cannot be modified, cancelled, returned or exchanged unless damaged or defective. Defective items will be exchanged unless no longer available, in which case a Merchandise Certificate will be issued.

How do I return or exchange an item?

If you're not satisfied with your order for any reason, simply return it within 90 days and we'll exchange, credit or refund the cost of the item (excluding Shipping & Processing fees). All Ballard products are guaranteed from defects for a full year from the date of shipment. Please note: Any items that are monogrammed, clearance, customized or made-to-order cannot be returned or exchanged.

Based on the dimensions and weights of the products in your order, the front of your packaging slip may contain a UPS or Return Service (RS) label. If you have received this label, your order qualifies for our Easy Returns service (OPTION 2). If your package does not contain a UPS/RS label, please follow OPTION 3.

OPTION 1: Self-service online return feature

This option allows you to print your own Return Label and use the pre-paid UPS Return Service. If you would like to take advantage of this service, please follow these easy steps:

  1. Click or tap on the "Start Return" button; you can find this in a number of places, including:
    • Shipping Confirmation Email
    • Delivery Confirmation Email
    • Order Details Page (Please have Order Number ready)
    • Order Locator (Please have Order Number ready)
  2. From there, follow the instructions on the screen
  3. During that process, the following instructions will be provided:
    1. Print the attached PDF that contains both your 'Return Authorization slip' and ‘Return Shipping label’
    2. Place the entire Return Authorization slip in your return package
    3. Affix the Return Shipping label squarely onto the address side of a flat surface on the package
      1. Cover up any previous delivery address and barcode
      2. Ensure that there are no other tracking labels attached to your package
    4. Take this package to a UPS location. To find your closest UPS location, visit the UPS Drop Off Locator or go to https://www.ups.com and select 'Drop Off'

OPTION 2: Easy Returns: Shipping via UPS/RS Label

This option allows you to use the pre-paid UPS Easy Returns label for just $8.95. Please note: Not all orders will receive the Easy Returns label. If you did not receive an Easy Returns label, email Customer Service along with your order # to obtain specific return instructions for your item. custserv@ballarddesigns.net. If you would like to take advantage of this service, follow these easy steps:

  1. Complete sections one, two, and three of the pack slip and include it with the item you are returning.
  2. Affix the UPS/RS return-shipping label I over the original shipping label on your package and reseal it for shipment. If your original package is unusable, please use similar packaging with sufficient packaging protection.
  3. Drop off the package at any UPS delivery or pickup address. For UPS drop-off locations or authorized shipping outlets, call 1-800-PICK-UPS or visit ups.com

Fabric-by-the-Yard and Rug Returns: Only complete uncut bolts of fabric can be returned; cut yardage is non-returnable. We can only accept fabric bolts and rug returns if returned in an undamaged original shipping bag. If the original shipping bag is unusable, please email us at custserv@ballarddesigns.net and we'll be happy to send you a return-shipping bag. Please note: This service is not available for return shipments from Alaska or Hawaii.

OPTION 3: Shipping via Carrier of your Choice

This option allows you to use the carrier of your choice to return an item weighing less than 50 lbs. to Ballard Designs. If you would like to take advantage of this service, please follow these easy steps:

  1. Complete sections one, two, and three of the pack slip and include it with the item(s) you are sending back.
  2. Apply the pre-addressed return label II on the front of the Ballard Designs packing slip.
  3. Apply the carrier's shipping label onto your package. If your original package is unusable, please use similar packaging with sufficient packaging protection. Pay the carrier's shipping charge for return shipping.

Fabric-by-the-Yard and Rug Returns: Only complete uncut bolts of fabric can be returned; cut yardage is non-returnable. We can only accept fabric bolts and rug returns if returned in an undamaged original shipping bag. If the original shipping bag is unusable, please email us at custserv@ballarddesigns.net and we'll be happy to send you a return-shipping bag. Please note: This service is not available for return shipments from Alaska or Hawaii.

Can I return shipped purchases to your store?

Yes…and no. If you received an item via STANDARD SHIPPING, you can return it to any of our retail stores. Due to their size and weight, items received by Truck or In-Home Delivery cannot be returned to stores. To return Truck and In-Home deliveries, call or email us to schedule a return pick-up:

Please note: All purchases made at our outlet stores are final sale and are non-returnable. Full price items cannot be returned to outlets.

Customized or Special Order Items

Items that are monogrammed, customized, Custom Plus, Customer's Own Material (COM), or made-to-order cannot be modified, cancelled, returned or exchanged unless damaged or defective. Defective items will be exchanged unless no longer available, in which case a Merchandise Certificate will be issued.

Clearance Items

Clearance items cannot be returned.

Once I return an item, how long will it take to receive a refund?

Once an item is received in our warehouse, a refund or exchange is processed immediately. For credit card orders, you can expect to see your credit within 3 business days. For check and money orders, you can expect to receive your refund check within 7-10 business days.
