Beautiful desk!We needed a desk we could configure to fit a particular space and that would meet our storage needs. We looked a 100's of desks. This desk works perfectly and we love it. It has been a high quality purchase, it was fairly easy to assemble but because of the size we needed two people The color and finish are lovely.
If there were any cons, it would be that I have already dinged the surface a couple of times and it left marks but it generally has worn quite well.
We are VERY happy!

Solid quality construction, disappointed in standard drawer size.Standard drawers are only 14" deep which leaves about 4" of unused / wasted space in the cabinet. I had to return the wood top because it was slightly flawed. I was very pleased with the assistance provided by the Customer Service Dept in resolving this issue.

Great Top, Perfect Fit - Nice finished look!When this order was originally delivered I was pretty disappointed that the item I received was cracked from top to bottom around the front edge and appeared to have epoxy applied to the crack to make it look better. If it had just been damaged in shipping that's one thing but I was upset that an item that was damaged had been shipped. However, customer service was so easy and nice to deal with and they shipped a brand new top out for me within 2 days. The new top is beautiful, looks great, fits perfect and I'm in love with my new desk!

Good quality unit work surfaceThis product is sturdy and well made, but it did not fit over my "original" home office file cabinets I bought from Ballard Designs 8 years ago. The newer "original" home office file cabinets must be slightly narrower. Luckily my husband is handy and shaved part of the wood off so they would fit. The color is slightly different also, but my cabinets may have faded. I love my home office file cabinets and their new work surface!

Does not play well with othersI have owned the five piece file cabinet and top for many years. I decided to split it up and add a corner unit and two tops, one to fit three cabinets and the other to fit two cabinets. The tops did not fit on my older file cabinets. The inside opening was about 1/2 inch too small to fit easily over the top. I decided rather than send the tops back to make the opening larger, it took a long time and used all my tool skills, which are not many!! Anyway, once everything fit I do love the corner unit and the over all quality of the furniture, just beware if you are trying to fit new with the old, they are like pig and elephant DNA - they just don't splice.

Functional Office FurnitureI work from home full time so I wanted to treat myself to a real office with functional furniture that worked for my needs. The pieces are substantial and of good quality. I notice that my husband works from home more often as well!!

Zinc top failI made a corner desk with two file cabinets and a corner top. The tops for everything I chose the zinc tops. The ones I received to top the file cabinet were a slightly different shade of zinc than the corner top piece. Over the last few years the difference has gotten worse. The corner piece is still a very silver zinc look. The two zinc toppers that go over the file cabinet ends are almost a golden champagne hue. Really disappointing for the price I paid for everything. I really wish they would offer to replace the two toppers so my entire desk top was the same color.

Good construction. Poor finish.Construction is excellent, and the furniture seems like it will be very durable. However, the finish is just a sprayed on fake finish instead of real wood grain that I expected from real wood furniture. Apparently they skip a prep or primer step because the finish chips off rather easily, exposing a different color wood underneath.

For new base cabinets onlyI purchased this top as an addition to a system I bought 10 years ago. It does not fit. I returned the first, hoping it was a fluke but same issue. The depth or width is less than a 1/4 in smaller than it needs to be. Sooooo frustrating. There must have been a slight change in design dimensions. So do not purchase unless you are using it for brand new base cabinets.

We work from home a lot, so I bought this top to create a second desk for a 2-person office we'll have in our new house. We bought the first one about eight years ago. The wear and tear on the first has been minimal, so we felt good about making this purchase. The nice thing about this particular office furniture is how adaptable it is. We added a printer cabinet as well and are waiting for the 3-drawer hutch to arrive to give height and a place to put a small TV. That gives us room for all our supplies, files, equipment and workspace.

Beware - new top doesn't fit over old cabinets!We purchased a number of pieces from this line several years ago, in large part because of the ease w/which we would be able to reconfigure them. Needing to do that now, we ordered this piece and were very disappointed to discover that it was a full inch shorter than our "old" 3-unit work surface, and wouldn't fit over the cabinets we already had. We had to buy a circular saw to chisel off enough to make it fit - a very unwelcome expense and effort. The same thing happened w/the 5-unit work surface we ordered at the same time. Ballard should make it clear that they've changed the dimensions of these pieces!

Doesn't fit with older cabinetsI had hoped the previous reviewers experience was the result of a manufacturing defect. Not so.
We should have been warned about the changes in dimensions.
I managed after an hour of chiseling and sanding to make it fit, but the top surface was scratched in the process.
It also doesn't match the color of the older surfaces. It's significantly darker.
If you have an older set of cabinets, DO NOT order this product.

Poor QualityPlease listen to the negative reviews. I wished I had. The material used on this furniture is so cheap and sensitive that no matter how careful one is it still gets a scratch or nick. I've only had this furniture for 4 months and the desk tops already require replacement. Certainly not worth the $2,000 paid for the corner desk with cabinets. Would have expected way better quality from Ballard

So disappointedOne of the main selling points of the Original Home Office products is that they are versatile and modular. I recently decided to size a three piece credenza down to a two piece and was going to order a new work surface to fit. Sadly they have changed all of the dimensions and the new work surface won't fit over my older cabinets, it's too small.
I can't help but feel cheated, and like Ballard doesn't care about it's customers. They changed this product line midstream, making it impossible for old to fit with new, and yet still claim it's modular and offers design flexibility. Hmmm...

Poor CraftmanshipI am extremely disappointed with my purchase of this modular home office set up. The quality of 'wood' used is very poor making it easy to ding at the slightest glance (I don't have children). The paint finish is cheap and hardly stands up to a coffee cup! I had returned two pieces because they came in damaged and that was not an easy task. I really regret my decision. This is NOT worth the money. Pictures included.
