I have the white shade bc I prefer the ambient light that results rather than the directed light (up and down) of black shades. The effect is not overwhelming but light and bright. It’s a quality lamp regarding materials and manufacturing. What’s not to like?

I get so many compliments. I have plugged them in to an Alexa plug for specialized instructions to turn on or off at voice command. Love, love , love them!
