Not like other sisalsI purchased this rug because the bleached tone blends perfectly with our white slipcovered furniture and pale yellow armchairs. I chose the Spa border because it matches the cushions in our living room. The mitered corners give it a crisp look under our coffee table. The size was also perfect for the space.

Hard-to-find colorBought two of these rugs with the khaki/tan border because of the light sisal color and I am pleased. The lighter, sort of straw color of this rug is just what I needed to help relate a golden granite counter to a noche travertine floor. No complaints about the quality.

Good neutral rug for shore house, but...Great little rug, but arrived with lots of dark colored threads and a very obvious "knot" in the rug. strong smellI recently purchased this rug. I love everything about it but the smell. It smells like formaldehyde. I have had the rug opened up for 8 days now and I hope the smell lessens. It is very noticable. The rug looks beautiful, a little rough on the feet, but overall it's the look I was going for.

Love the color choices; doesn't clean up wellI was very excited to find a light-colored sisal that came with many color choices for the trim. The gray was perfect underneath the smaller lavender and gray wool rug in our daughter's room and made for a nice layered look with the wood floors. Unfortunately, our three year old vomited on this rug, and there's nothing we can do to save it. Considering it was less than a year old, it's a shame, but part of the peril of natural grass materials apparently. Will wait for a sale to order a replacement.

Light colorI like this rug a lot. It is pretty light and fairly yellowish. We have gray walls, and we feel like it is ok, though. The blue border is a really good blue color. There were some gray marks on the rug, but they aren't a big deal. Finally, it isn't soft, but isn't horrible either. I don't know that I would want to sit on the floor with bare legs, though. I am including a picture. It is blurry, but gives you an idea of the color of the rug.

Love the lighter sisal!This rug IS beautiful. The lighter sisal is refreshing especially with the spa twill border. The contrast works well in my dining room.The knots are tighter creating a more elegant look for a natural fiber rug. One downfall - the cotton twill corners could have been more elegantly folded and stitched. Arrived on time and in great condition. Will not be purchasing anymore rugs though, the cost to ship is simply outrageous!

Good Looking RugI looked several places for a large, light sisal area rug and was happy to find it at Ballard Designs. Luckily, I got it 15% off, which helped with the hefty 50 dollar shipping fee. I layered a houndstooth diagonally over it and together they have a dramatic impact in my great room. There are a few dark brown fibers that run through it- almost making it look like someone marked it with a thin pen. This happens on the entire surface of the rug, but is only noticeable when you are looking closely. Decorator I am working with says this is a characteristic of a sisal.

Beautiful and DurableWe love this rug! My cats tear it to pieces and it never shows it. It lightens our entire living room and brings an airy sophisticated feel to it. The only thing I'll say about it is that in certain light, it has a yellowish tint. Besides that, it's gorgeous!

Not quite what you pay forOverall the rug is okay - but two issues to be aware of: 1) rug makes the room it is laid down in smell like plastic for about 1 week after laying it down (as a result of the plastic backing) 2) rug has several ‘natural’ defects (not surprising given it’s a natural fiber) - to be fair these are visual only. Given the price point, neither should occur.

Maybe, maybe not?Not sure about a few brown/black streaks running randomly through the rug. I understand that it's a natural product, so some variation might occur, but the contrast is so dramatic and the rug looks like it's soiled. As I mentioned to the Ballard's customer service rep, I'm toying with returning it because of that. But I probably won't since it'd be a real hassle. It was a good price for a 10 x 14, especially with the sale. It is somewhat yellow in color, so be aware of that as well. Wish I could be more positive!

This rug texture works under office chair on rollers.I looked locally at many rugs to find a nice looking, natural fiber for my office with hardwood floors. I tried this tighter-weave sisal and it is working just fine with the rollers of my desk chair. The dimensions are not ideal, however. I need another foot in width.

NOT pet friendly—so hard to cleanThis rug is extremely difficult to clean...water turns it a brownish color as does diluted cleaning solutions. I was told to use a hair dryer to dry the cleaned area to prevent water staining but this did not work. I am disappointed that one puppy accident ruined this rug. Please consider your needs before purchasing. I could find nothing on the Ballard website on how to clean this rug—just generic vacuuming suggestions. I do believe this rug needs a “Buyer Beware” warning. Other than difficulty with maintaining the rug, it was fine.

Just okI ordered this rug with the navy border. The border is pretty and true to the color in the catalog. The rug however is much more yellow than pictured and also has some black lines running through it that look like magic marker. I kept the rug only because I was preparing the house for summer rental and was running out of time. Otherwise I would have sent it back.
