Beautiful chairs, true to photosI bought two Hartwell leather chairs in October after debating the decision for months. The fact that there were only a few reviews made me nervous to buy investment-price furniture, but I liked the style far better than any others I had seen, so I took the risk. I was not disappointed - they are true to the color on the website and just as beautiful in person. The leather is buttery soft and cleans up beautifully with Bick 4 leather conditioner. They do scratch somewhat easily, which is going to be a given with soft leather, but the wear will add a nice well-loved look over time. No regrets at all. Love them.

Extremely comfortable chairsLOVE this chair! We bought two for our living room and they are so comfortable. They are deep, so they're perfect for curling up on (I'm 5'7" and can't sit straight against the back and have my feet on the ground). Because of the leather, they scratch easily, but that's part of their charm/look. The chairs look great and were very easy to put together.

We LOVE this chair!Wee saw a review saying that it was too small, but we disagree - and we have an 8 ft. couch that is extra deep (44"!) that it sits next to. The color is wonderful, it is exactly as it appears on the site - a warm caramel that balances all of the dark wood and ivory linen we have surrounding it. Great piece - and the matching ottoman is fantastic too!

Such a beautiful chair! EXCELLENT quality!!This chair exceeded my expectations! The leather is buttery soft and such a beautiful color. It is very comfortable and not at all stiff (like I’ve read other leather chairs could be)! I love the edge the square design gives such a classic statement piece. Our house is a little modern and a little antique- this is just perfect to blend in. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Modern low back uncomfortable.Love the color and shape of this chairs! The seat is a too deep for me (I'm 5/8") and the back is a too low for me to sit in the chair comfortably. Would like the chair better if the back was about 4-5 inches taller.

Pretty caramel colored chair.I bought this chair during the Black Friday sale. My store did not have one on the floor, so I bought it without being able to try it out, but there is a 90 day return period, so I felt good about the purchase.
The chair was delivered and the minute I started assembling it, I knew there were problems. Although the box was in perfect condition, the chair was a hot mess. The leather on one side was crushed, the legs were damaged and the leather looked dry. I was pretty upset. But I spoke with customer service who handled the situation perfectly. I didn't even have to provide photos (although I have plenty!) They quickly located another chair in my state and promised delivery within a couple of weeks.
The second chair was much better (in fact, the box had a label on the front that said it had been opened and inspected for quality). The delivery company took the damaged chair and all of the packing materials away.
So far so good, the chair is comfortable and looks good in my living room. I docked a star because the side seams are not straight, but at this point, I will just accept it.
I wish there were a recommendation from Ballard of what kind of products I can use to clean and protect the leather, but when I inquired, I was told that Ballard was not the manufacturer so they don't have any information. I bought some wipes from Guardsman. Hopefully they will do OK.

Well made, for the long leggedThe seat of this chair is very deep so if you have long legs it’s ok. The back is very low which makes it fine for sitting and visiting, but not comfortable for lounging or watching tv.

Scratches easilyThe styling of these is really nice. They are quite comfortable. They do scratch extremely easy. Every time you sit on them, a rivet from your pants or a finger will put a mark on them. Cute for the price.

Beautiful and comfortable chairI really like the design and size of the chair, it looks great in my house. It was packed well, arrived in great shape and was easy to put together (the legs on the bottom). I would have given the chair five stars if the bottom and back cushion were totally covered in leather on both sides (parts are a black fabric) so I could flip them over if something happened to one side.

Short and squatI loved this chair online but, like others have said, it is so short in person. It’s kind of an awkward look and I regret buying it. The leather is beautiful and it seems very sturdy but I can’t get over how awkward the proportions are. Instead of putting it in my family room like I planned, I think I will hide it away in a bedroom.

Handsome but odd proportions & poor build qualityI received my Hartwell Leather Chair this morning. It comes mostly assembled with only the legs requiring attachment. I purchased it on sale. With tax and delivery, it was almost $1,500.
First, the positives:
-very handsome, transitional piece
-buttery soft leather (although as mentioned by another reviewer, the leather only covers the sides, front and top of each cushion so they are not reversible)
-warm color that is exactly what I was looking for
Now, the not-so-positives:
-poor build quality (One side of the back, bottom frame is separated from the leather portion even though the screws are tight which causes the chair to wobble when the legs are attached. The attachment of the leather to the frame is sloppy with several staples exposed.)
-awkward seating position/proportions (I am 5'9" with a 31" inseam and my feet barely touch the floor if my lower back is against the back cushion. The seat is too high and too deep while the back cushion is too short to be very comfortable.)
-don't bother to opt for In-Home Delivery until the COVID-19 pandemic is over (The delivery crew couldn't have been nicer but they are not permitted to assemble furniture or bring it into the purchaser's home = total waste of $.)
I like the look of this piece and plan to use it as an occasional chair which will receive limited use. If it was for everyday seating, it would have to go back...just not comfortable. For the price, I expected better build quality.

Great looking but uncomfortable.The chair is absolutely great looking. 100% loved the look. However, extremely uncomfortable for both me and my husband. We bought these to be our everyday, lounge while watching TV chairs and we both got to a point where we could not sit in them. Caused so much back pain. Very sadly had to return them.

Beautiful design, But!......We've had our chair only a few weeks. It sits in the corner of our family room.
My husband is not a large man (5'8"~160LBS)
This is where he perches each morning for his morning coffee. (Only an hour or so each day otherwise it isn't sat in)
Needless to say, it isn't wearing well.
The reviews are true, it's yummy color, its style & profile are all very nice.
This chair will not last.
It may hold up great in a living room where it isn't used, but for performance & function it gets an "F" for fail. In addition I've seen this exact chair on another website for much less (1,100.) and yet after having it for only 2 weeks, it isn't worth that either.
Sorry Ballard, your products are usually top notch, but this isn't one of them.

Great style; too small of a scaleI received this leather chair and otto about a month ago. The leather is gorgeous; exactly what I wanted. And the styling is beautifully with the more modern arms and legs a really nice addition to my more traditional living room. But- bummer!- it looks built for an elf home once in the room. My husband is 6'2" and the back of the chair is much too squat to be comfortable. Please take this beautiful chair and scale it up another 25% and you'll have a winner. I plan to return.

worst furniture purchase everI am so regretful for having ordered these. They are squished down and look terrible,the leather is "dried" out looking and everything that touches it marks the leather. So disappointed wish I never would have purchased.
