Beautiful piece for bathroomI have a small bathroom that does not allow me much space to get ready. I was able to fit this piece into corner of bathroom. All I need is the perfect stool and I now have a vanity!!!

Stunning!I have looked for a writing desk and or secretary for the almost 7 years we've been in our current home. This piece of furniture fits the bill beautifully! Beautiful focal pointIn a word: "Bellissima". It did take awhile to arrive but Ballard kept me updated and it was well worth the wait. This is a beautiful piece, obviously hand-crafted, and very feminine. It stands out in my breakfast nook, allows me to show off some nice porcelain and brass pieces, and hides all my bills, paperwork, stationery, stamps, etc. to boot. I love it!

Lovely, but damagedAfter waiting nearly a year for this piece I was disappointed to find the front damaged by white paint. If it were on the side or bottom, I probably would chalk it up to the general lack of quality our current culture seems to tolerate, but it's front and center. Wish Ballard would provide touch up paint with their furniture pieces like the Amish cabinet makers do for semi-custom cabinets and furniture. I'll decorate to disctract, but not sure what the quality standard Ballard implements prior to shipping.

Lovely secretary deskIt is a lovely little secretary. The finish is nice but the design is lovely. I was surprised it wasn’t a little bigger but it’s a nice size. Quality is ok but not exceptional.

exactly as expectedthis gets four stars because a leg was slightly smushed. the damage was likely in shipping and neither affects the looks nor utility of the piece. it also took a long time to arrive, so I wasn't about to return it.
I thought the price was good for a secretary. the piece is petite, which is what I needed. a local antique shop carries larger pieces for less $, but this Ballard piece has the combo of a currently fashionable finish and that harder to find size.
would mention that the door needs the lock engaged to stay closed. the drop leaf has no knob, so the key has to serve as a pull.
overall, looks like what I expected and quality is acceptable. if the dog chews on it, I won't be upset and the patina can handle it. I'd recommend it.

Wonderful accent piece!Well worth the wait. This diminutive desk is perfect for our small cottage. It was safely packaged, just as pictured, and easy to set up. The drawers were lined with a pretty marbled paper, a lovely florentine touch.

Good Quality but Long Shipping TimeThe quality of the product is good and it looks like an expensive piece of furniture (which it is). My only complaint is that it took over 3 months from the time I ordered the piece to when it actually arrived. Other than that, I would recommend it.

Very pretty for an accent piece of furniture.This product is a perfect size for a small area. Finish was just as samples showed. I had ordered sample finishes. Name on two of the finishes in the catalog were reversed, but the Ballard Design order taker informed me of that. Very nice lady taking my order. The only reason I did not rank it a 5 was, the material used does not seem to be solid wood, which I don't believe the catalog says either way. However for what I am using it for, it does not need to be solid wood. Just had to attach the top and bottom pieces which was very easy. Overall I am very pleased and it is a nice accent piece. I love the design of the piece and nice paint finish.

Very nice, but too small!I guess I should have gotten out a tape measure before ordering! After waiting several months for the desk, I was very disappointed with the size. In the magazine it looks very tall. I have 10 ft. ceilings and it looked really short in my room. It would be great for a child's room!

This is a pretty secretary, however...I was so excited to receive my secretary after waiting 4 months to get it. Upon opening the box the base legs were broken in several places. As i examined the damage I found that they were only stapled with tiny staples and the whole bottom was particle board. The hutch was also damaged where paint had flaked off the PARTICLE BOARD shelves in about 6 places.Needless to say I was so disappointed to have to box it up and call Ballard's.
It is poor craftsmanship and confirms my conviction to buy AMERICAN from now on.
The only good news is Ballard's customer service was very nice about setting things up to return it and get my money back.

Waited 3 months and it came broken.I fell in love with this furniture in the picture. For the price and for the fact that it came from Italy I believed it was made of wood. I waited 3 months for it to arrive, planned and decorated a room around it and when it came 2 of the 3 pieces were broken. It was made very poorly. It was not wood but fabricated cheap particle board. It was very disappointing. I would not order any of this collection again.

Very Poor CraftsmanshipIt took 4 months to receive this item. If I could give it Zero stars, I would. It is not the 'heirloom' piece as Ballard describes in their Casa Florentina comments. It has rough, unsanded finishes under the antiqued paint. It is mostly MDF which becomes raised and not smooth once painted. It has inferior drawer slides - one was broken when the piece arrived since they are so flimsy. Fibers were obviously on the chicken wire prior to the painting of the chicken wire so they are now stuck to it - I was afraid to pull the fibers off as the paint would be removed with the tug. It appears that half of the locking mechanism was not installed at all - the oval hole is empty - just a rough, unsanded oval hole to catch the lock. The metal hinges of the desktop were painted and look as if they will peel - they were already rippled. This is plainly visible when the desk is open which is how I wanted to display the piece in my home. NOT Ballard quality at all, especially given the price. Ballard was considerate and let us return the piece.
