The mat does shed a bit as expected, but overall it holds up really well. Our front door area is open to a lot of weather, and I typically need to replace these mats once a year, but in a covered area, I think they would last a lot longer. The pattern is subtle, but nice. Edited to say I’ve ordered these 4 times! Our chicago weather is tough on doormats and mine are exposed to all weather. They are stylish, don’t slip and are thin enough that my door opens easily
