Beautiful & Well MadeWe bought two of these Office File Cabinets for our new house. These File Cabinets, the Desk and the Bookcase are (as I said) are really beautiful & well made. I had one color scheme in mind for the 'Office' but it after the furniture arrived, could see a whole new idea. (Paint is so easy to change ;-) And I know 'Guidelines' say stay on topic, but the Delivery guys were great as always (I have had many BD orders.) I would share a pic, but we're still unpacking!

This is a very handy and stylish cabinetI purchased the Bourdonnais desk a few months ago. Storage was a problem. The desk has 3 tidy drawers but they were not sufficient for the amount of papers I use. The file cabinet is beautiful and matches well. The file cabinet is about 1/8 inch higher than the desk. The computer printer rocked a little so I put a couple of sticky feet on one end of the printer. You really don't notice the small discrepancy and the printer is very happy now. Good job Ballard.

Beautiful and solidI thought about going with a less expensive lateral filing cabinet but at the last minute decided to go for it. I'm so pleased I did and in hindsight the cost of this item does not seem expensive at all. It finished my office exactly as I had envisioned. It goes beautifully with the Whitley desk I bought (and LOVE) from Ballard Designs.

looks great and is functionalI loved the look of this file cabinet because it doesn't look like a file cabinet, it looks like a nice piece of furniture. I have this in my dining room with the hutch and it looks great, and is exactly what I wanted. It is a heavy duty piece of furniture and will last a long time. The finish is is so nice. I was afraid it would look country being distressed, but is has just enough that it doesn't go county and looks so sophisticated. I am 100% satisfied with the purchase. I get so many compliments on the piece. If you are questioning if you should purchase, don't. It is worth every cent.

This file cabinet is of higher quality and looks than the pictures on the web site suggestThis file cabinet is a very nice piece of furniture. It saw it on the website and felt that it met my storage needs and that it would look nice in my office. When it arrived, I was surprised to see how much nicer it is than the picture suggested. Further, I am impressed with the sliding mechanism of the drawers which move in and out smoothly and appear to be able to support the load that my files will put on them. This is a heavy piece of furniture and I would encourage buyers to pay the extra fee for delivery and unpackaging. It weighs over 100 pounds and as I said is a nice piece of furniture. This file cabinet exceeded my expectations.

Great Looking Addition To My OfficeThis cabinet met the quality and appearance I wanted and looks extremely well with the companion desk-top organizer. Only wish that I had room for a second one. One constructive criticism is that Ballard Designs only drop loads and this cabinet is quite heavy and they should adopt a policy whereby the customer can choose to pay an additional amount especially when the piece will be located on a second floor. You charge extra for over-sized freight why not incorporate this change in your policy.

I was surprised at the quality. It is very solid and heavy.
You can only open one draw at a time, which will save it tipping. The draw will also only open when both handles are pulled. This makes it easier to slide. My husband was so impressed be bought the matching set as well. This is definitely a quality piece of furniture.

Missing hardwareThe drawers are a little tricky. The upper one has to be completely closed or the lower one won’t open.
Also, the hardware is attached on the bottom of the cabinet. We didn’t know that and called the company for replacements, which they immediately sent. Then I happened to see the fine print of where it was. Who ever would think it was underneath??
It is good quality and looks very classy.

Beautiful and FunctionalGorgeous File Cabinet. Well made and functional. When delivered, it contained a white powder on it. The powder remains in the small groves on the top of the cabinet. I have tried to clean but did not expect the cabinet to arrive dirty. The drawers were difficult to install and "click" when closing.

Attractive but needs better hardwareReally nice looking cabinets in black finish, but hanging hardware needs to be improved. Rods fall out of slots easily because (1) the drawer back wall is too flexible and (2) the slots are too shallow—so the folders fall. One set of slots is off correct position by 1/4 in. and is unusable.

Solid & Beautiful but needs longer file rods!Love this file cabinet- soft white (matched Christine Secretary Desk beautifully), Clean lines, spacious. Only issue is that the metal rods for the files are a bit too short and I had to use a nail to keep one from falling - Really a flaw in design - either it is too short or the cabinet bows out too much. Otherwise love it!

Solidly built, but missing parts and finish doesn't wow meI bought the Bourdonnais desk and file cabinet in the Belgian Oak finish. The desk is lovely and sturdy, evenly finished. The file cabinet, however, is a bit of a disappointment. Solidly constructed, but the "rustic" finish is uneven, cheapening the overall appeal of the piece. The oak used for the frame/cabinet of the piece has totally different burling and coloring than the drawers (which are smooth-grained and nicely finished). On the front sides and top of the cabinet, I can see wood filler spots (bright putty colored) in several places where small finish nails are located. Granted, the filler spots are small, but there are no less than 15 of them and it's all I see when I look at the piece.
Also, my cabinet did not come with file bars, so before I could use the cabinet, I had to retrofit my two drawers with bars purchased separately at an office supply store, even though the packing instructions stated it came with 4 metal file bars.
While I would not recommend the Belgian Oak finish because of the previously mentioned flaws, I am impressed with the heft, construction and design of the Bourdonnais collection. I chose poorly on the finish, but I would recommend the collection if you are considering something other than Belgian Oak.
