Shipping Information

Why do some products have Oversize Charges?

Certain items are subject to an Oversized Delivery charge such as furniture, rugs and other large items that are bulky and heavy. These items have a delivery and processing surcharge. This charge is listed as "Oversized Delivery" and is noted in parentheses after the item price and is in addition to regular shipping and processing charges.

Can I have weekend or after-hours delivery on my freight items?

Weekend and after hours freight deliveries may be available in limited areas at an extra cost; however, this requires a special shipping quote. To receive an accurate quote please email us or call customer service at 1-800-536-7551

What is In-Home Delivery?

Select large and heavy items are delivered by our In-Home Delivery service, as indicated in the item description. Upon delivery we will bring the item into your home, place it where you want it, inspect it and remove packaging materials, as needed. Assembly is not included. Please be available to witness the removal of the packaging material from the item. In the event you see any damage to the box and/or the item itself, please contact us immediately before accepting the product.

In-Home deliveries are typically made 2-3 weeks from the date of shipment between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The delivery agent will call to schedule a 4-hour window for delivery.

Delivery Requirements

For In-Home delivery, the delivery agent requires:

  • Site is accessible by 26' straight trucks.
  • Your street is at least two car widths wide (10 feet).
  • Any pathways or gates to a driveway have a clearance of at least 36" wide.

Please note, shipping charges are not refunded once an item has shipped.

Note: Surcharges applied to In-Home Delivery options are in addition to regular shipping and processing charges. Shipping charges are not refundable once an item has shipped. In Home Delivery can not be downgraded to Threshold Delivery.

What is Threshold delivery?

Large items selected for Threshold Delivery, as indicated in the item description, are delivered via standard truck delivery service. Items are unloaded by the driver and placed inside the first-floor doorway, garage or covered area of your choice. Threshold Delivery does not include unpacking or placement inside your home. If you prefer to have item(s) delivered, unpacked and placed inside your home for you with packing materials removed, you can upgrade to In-Home Delivery Service: Assembly is not included. We are not able to attach table legs or put together beds.

The delivery agent will call to schedule a 4-hour window for delivery, Monday-Friday 7 a.m-7 p.m. Delivery is typically 2-3 weeks from the date item is shipped but may vary depending on your residence and location of shipment pickup. The Threshold Delivery surcharge is in addition to regular shipping and processing charges.

What is express delivery?

For even faster delivery, we offer Next Business Day and Two Business Day Express Service. Express orders received by 4 p.m. (EST) are shipped the same day. For Standard and Express Delivery rates, consult our Shipping and Processing Charges table. Ballard Designs Express Delivery (For Orders Under 15 lbs.)

  • Two business day delivery: $9.95 additional
  • Next business day delivery: $19.95 additional
  • Alaska, Puerto Rico, Hawaii & US Virgin Islands: $9.95 additional

What is standard delivery?

Standard Delivery orders are shipped via standard ground service, and generally will arrive in 3-7 business days. Items ordered at the same time will not necessarily be delivered together.

Can I return or pick up items from your store?

Retail: Retail stores carry prime merchandise at full cost.

You can visit one of our retail locations and if you are unable to find what you are looking for we will be happy to accommodate you by placing your order. Please note that all orders will ship from one of our distribution centers and shipping and handling may apply, contact the store for details. Items purchased at the store can be returned but our retail stores will not be able to accept returns for products purchased at either our outlet store, online, or through our catalogs.

Outlet Store: Carries returned merchandise or slightly damaged products at a reduced price.

All purchases made at our outlet stores are final sale and are non returnable.

How do you calculate shipping and processing charges?

The shipping and processing charge is designated to compensate our company for the services we provide that enable our customers the convenience of ordering from our catalog and website and receiving home-delivery of our products, including processing your order and packaging and shipping your purchases, as well as related overhead costs associated with these services. Shipping charges are based on item price before any discounts are applied.

Most of our Standard Delivery items ship the next business day and arrive in 3-7 business days. Large or bulky items requiring specialized delivery and items shipped directly from our manufacturers may take longer.

Standard Delivery - Your order is shipped via standard ground service and generally arrives in 3-7 business days. Items ordered at the same time may not be delivered together.

Express Delivery - For even faster delivery, we offer Next Business Day and Two Business Day Express Service. Orders received by 4 p.m. (EST) are shipped the same day. Call for Express Delivery charges.

  • Two day service starts at $9.95
  • Next day service starts at $19.95
  • Alaska, Puerto Rico, US VI, Hawaii service starts at $9.95 (Express Delivery required)

International Shipping

Ballard Designs is happy to coordinate the shipping of our products outside the U.S. However, deliveries outside the continental United States may require additional shipping charges. A customer service representative from Ballard will contact you within one to three business days after your order to provide a final shipping quote before your order is shipped or any charges are applied to your credit card. When placing your order, please be sure to include an email address or fax number so we can contact you with a quote.

Please be aware that our quotes for shipping outside the U.S. and Puerto Rico do not include any applicable duty, value added taxes (VAT), or import consumption taxes. The recipient of the merchandise will be required to pay the duty or VAT upon delivery. Due to import duty valuation adjustments and currency valuations, we are unable to provide an estimate for duty or VAT.

Also, please be aware that although Ballard supports manufacturer's warranties, our return guarantee does not include freight charges for international returns. If for any reason the recipient chooses to return a product from outside the U.S., international shipping charges must be pre-paid.
