Cute -but not as sturdy as I expected.
Upon receiving my step basket I immediately noticed the weave was thinner and weaker than I had expected, especially for the price. It also had a broken frame. In calling B.D. their customer service was great and they offered to refund me or send me a new one. I was very happy about the no-hastle. I opted for the refund because while it is cute it does not seem sturdy enough to meet my everyday needs on a busy staircase. On the upside the gentlemen told me to keep the basket and use it as best I could till it completely breaks. That was nice to not have to worry about sending it back.

Poor Quality
I ordered this basket as a Christmas gift for my daughter. However, when it arrived I was very disappointed with the quality so it was returned. The rattan is very thin and easily breakable. If you plan to use it for lightweight items such as mail, it will serve you well. The size is perfect and I like the small organizer basket that fits inside. It just needs to be made with sturdier material.

Very disappointed in the quality.
Unfortunately, I can't recommend this basket. It looks lovely in the photo, but the quality and appearance in person are very poor. The finish is uneven and too shiny, and the color is not at all as pictured. It is a reddish-orange color rather than the natural brown as shown in the photo. The weaving is loose and even broken in several places. I bought the basket intending to give it as a birthday gift, but had to return it. I expect better quality at discount chain stores.

This product was a little disappointing
The size of this basket is quite large and I think if my stairs weren't as wide as they are, it would be in the way. Secondly, the basket looks cheaply made and there are spots where the color is scratched off, or never on. It is not worth the cost of the basket plus shipping.

Buying my second one now
I bought this a few years ago to manage all our "dog supplies" (treats, brushes, dog walking bags, etc).
I loved the basket so much, that when I decided I needed another one (for one place to put all the mail and not the five places it currently gets placed in the house) I decided this was the basket I had to come back to.
The quality is great. The deep and shallow parts work well and keep us organized.

Makes life simple
I love this stair basket. Without it, the bottom of my stairs looked like a complete mess b/c I wasn't going to make ten trips up just to put one thing away. Now, it's neat and organized, I take the basket up at night and bring it back down in the morning to start the process again. Genius.

Useful, well made basket
My Step Basket is a life saver. I have two young children who are constantly bringing their little figures and playthings downstairs. I put everything in the basket and take it upstairs every once in awhile to clean it out and put things away. Helps control the clutter. It is strong and well made because of the metal frame. I had a cheaper made basket before that lost its shape. Love everything I buy from Ballard.

Poor Quality
I was surprised at the poor quality of this item. The Rattan was scratched in places and the woven parts were not secured and sticking up so that they would easily be caught on any item placed in the basket. I don't have time to exchange nor do I have faith in the process so I am stuck with it for a gift. Very disappointed and embarassed by this purchase.

This is the worst product ever
It is pity I cannot give zero stars. The step basket arrived with obvious cracks and missing sections in places. Neither the workmanship nor the quality and finish are worth the price. It is pity though because this was my first trial purchase and had the quality been good I was going to buy chandeliers and furniture. Needless to say I am not going back.

Not the best fit
This basket is decent, but not perfect. It is a little big for my 1956 stairs, so I had to prop it on the bottom step rather than putting it where the landing turns (as I had originally planned). Measure carefully before you order. Otherwise, the basket is a nice quality and not too "country"

Excellent
Was everything I expected and more. Great quality. My sister had seen mine (from another source) and wanted one for her house. She was overjoyed and would not put it on back staircase but insisted it go on her front staircase. Much nicer than the one I have.

lovely
I'm enjoying my basket very much.
I have one thought to share that might be helpful to a reader. Because I have carpeting on my stairs, the basket does not sit completely flat. I have to be very careful as to how I put things in it.

Bad Quality
The quality is very poor. There are holes in the basket and pieces of rattan sticking out that can snag items. The color is also not as pictured. It's more of a reddish-orange in person. This basket is NOT WORTH 50 dollars!!

Love this!
I bought this basket because I always have a stack of things waiting to go upstairs. This hides all of my stuff and is great looking! It is a great quality, unique item for a great price! Highly recommend!

Great value
I read another review that said this was orange, which made me really hesitant. It is a little orange but it has a great natural look to it. I shopped around other places and this was honestly the best price for a step basket that I could find, especially with this sharp of a look. I love it. I also didn't realize that the organizer portion comes out (even though it says so in the description). So really its 2 baskets, which makes it an ever better deal. So glad I bought it!

Not happy
Not happy with it. Cheap looking for what I paid for it. Does not fit stairs well either...there are gaps.

Sturdy and attractive
I spent two years looking at this basket. I would wait because I was usually ordering something I needed at the time and didn't want the added cost. Then one day I had to order it because IT WAS ON SALE! Thank you for finally allowing me to order my basket without guilt. It is so handy and looks so attractive. The compartments make it easy to sort small items like jewelry or toy parts without losing them in the larger section.

Perfect stair organizer
I had forever been frustrated by running up and down stairs putting things away or tripping over things in the staircase that I had planned to bring up the stairs on my next trip. This has helped organize those items and it has added a new decor element. Very sturdy. I didn't realize until it had arrived that the small basket actually is removable which is perfect for those smaller items. Highly recommend this product!

Rattan Step Basket - Poor quality
This picture does not speak a thousand words. The rattan is thin and brittle. The stain is obvious, detracting instead of enhancing. I would have promptly sent it back if I had not convinced my mother in PA to order this basket for my daughter in TN for Christmas. It was too inconvenient to return. Needless to say, it is not worth the price. I am very disappointed and would never recommend this product to anyone.

Great clutter buster! Well worth the price.
Love the step basket! It's very sturdy, good looking, and best of all it helps corral all the clutter which before this seemed to congregate on a countertop waiting for someone to actually pick it up and find its proper place in the lower level of our home. Now we just grab the basket by the handles and take it with when we head downstairs, then scatter the contents to their homes. Great clutter buster!

Good, sturdy product
Product arrived in good condition and was constructed well. The only thing I didn't care for was the smell of the rattan but it dissipates after sitting out for a while. I put it on my stairs for use but my 3-yr. old keeps taking it away and putting it elsewhere in the house so it will likely not get any use until he's a little older. But it's a good product, especially since it was on sale for $30.

Useful and well designed
I like the design because it can accommodate large and small items. The removable basket is handy. On the down side, I would have liked a tighter, cleaner looking weave, more like what the store image shows. And for our application, a narrower basket would have been better, but we're making it work for us. Another suggestion: offer colors: at least one other that is light (tan or white).

Wish I would have bought it 2 years sooner!
I saw this basket awhile back. I never purchased it because in my own crazy head I thought I could find something even better! I didn't realize that the little sorter compartment lifts out completely. Fast forward to two years later...I had not seen anything better. I finally bought it. It is well constructed and keeps the bottom of my stairs neat. Love it!

Fits perfectly on my staircase
I have been looking for this very specific item and I am so glad to have ordered this basket. It is just what I needed. It is a great item to leave on the stairs to place any items out of the way that the kids need to bring upstairs with them. This really helps to tidy up the bottom of the staircase and looks nice too.

Does the job but could look nicer
My husband purchased this because we always leave
items on the steps that need to be brought upstairs. It fits our stairs fine and the basket is deep so it can hold a good amount. However, the color of the basket is not what I was expecting. It is a little orange and overall it looks cheaper than I would like.

useful but also attractive
This step basket is a great alternative to leaving a pile of items on the bottom step. The pull-out little bin is a great feature for keeping small items from getting lost at the bottom of the basket. The whole thing looks very nice sitting there and is more attractive than other similar baskets we have had.

Rattan Step Basket Does Its Job
I was not at all disappointed in the rattan step basket. It blends in well with the stain on my hardwood stairs and holds all of the little things that collect over the day that need to go upstairs. The inside basket lifts out and makes a great carrier that can be used to keep upstairs to go down.
