Very nice looking and comfortable
I like the way these mats look in my French-inspired kitchen. They are very comfortable to stand on for long periods of time. I often cook for several hours at a time and can do so without the fatigue and ankle swelling I experienced before.
Regarding complaints others have had. There was a slight smell that dissipated after a couple of weeks. The mats do not have a solid background. Instead they are mottled like a well-used chalkboard. They seem well made. I don't see that the cover would seperate from the rubber backing.

Kitchen comfort mat met the expectations.
We were looking for a thick, padded mat for the kitchen sink area. This one met our expectations, in that it looks good and is thick enough to provide a comfortable place to stand. When we first opened the package, the mat had a strong petroleum smell- it was offensive enough that we thought we might have to return it. But after a week or so, the smell was gone--and we're very happy we gave it a chance to air out. Would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a fatigue-type cushioned mat.

So disappointed
Have been looking at this mat for 6 months. Finally ordered it, and it arrived today. Yes it smells but that is not the problem. It looks water stained. I called thinking that it was defective. But no, I was told if you zoom in on the picture it is mottled and water stained looking. It costs to much to ship back so I will keep it but absolutely do NOT recommend buying it. It had such great potential to be fabulous. Instead it looks like a stained mess.I don't know if this is recent or if they always looked this way. They are drop shipped from a different vendor.

a comfort mat with great style
I have bought two of these mats for my kitchen. They give instant style and look great against our black and white flooring, defining the working space in front of counter areas. They show no dirt or grease and the slightly mottled black background surely helps with this camouflage while looking like real blackboard. The rugs have no odor as reported by previous reviewers, I was surprised to see that comment as there is no odor. They have not split and seem to be as good as new after 3 months. I will not be washing these in a machine although that is recommended. They keep perfectly clean with vacuuming. If necessary, I'll use a bit of soapy water. Highly recommend.

Comfy mats
I bought the 52" mats to put in front of my kitchen island & sink. These mats are comfortable underfoot and the smooth top cleans up easily. They look great. There was a funny smell the first day or two but that has faded away completely.

Glad I bought it!
I was a little concerned after reading reviews about the terrible oder from this mat, but i ordered it any way and I am glad I did. There was only a slight oder nothing I couldnt live with for the day, and this mat is much better looking than any of the ones I have seen in the stores.

Comfortable and stylish
Love the way the mats look (I have all 3 sizes) and they work well with my decor. This is my first comfort mat so I don't know how thick or cushy other mats are but I find these comfortable when I am standing on them prepping food or doing dishes. When I spill things on them they are easy to wipe clean. The care instructions say machine washable but I don't think that is necessary since they are so easy to wipe clean. Don't know how they would hold up in the washing machine so I don't plan on washing mine in the machine. The negatives is that even after 3 weeks my mats still have that strong rubber smell (hoping it will go away eventually) and there is a French error in the menu printing (but most people probably won't notice).

Floor Mats Perk up Kitchen Decor and More...
Replacing my plain black mats with these bistro inspired menu floor mats was an easy decision. The fact that they are so comfortable underfoot and reduce the "trip" factor are unexpected bonuses. C'est magnifique!

Love it!!!
Not only is it comfortable, holds flat to the floor and is a wonderful design, it cleans very easily with the wipe of a wet sponge. Love it!

It's got style
This is by far, the most stylish comfort mat I have ever seen and I love the extra long size. It's easy to care for too. But it's not the most cushy mat I have experienced. Still, I'll take the style over comfort in mats and in shoes!

Very Satisfied
Very comfy to work on.....using 2 of them in my kitchen, adds a very "funky" look to my eclectic style, and does not show all the stuff that my kitchen floor does.....love them! Cannot wait to hear the comments of my Holiday guests.......

Excellent Comfort Mat
This is the best comfort mat I have seen anywhere. The width and length are perfect for below the sink and dishwasher area in my kitchen. The thickness makes it very comfortable to stand on. I love it, great design.

Chic and Comfortable, Mais Oui!
I bought this mat because it's so cute -- a French bistro chalkboard -- so creative -- especially when many 'chef's mats' look more like rubber boot-parks. This mat reminds me of Paris and is super comfortable.

Love it!
I've had my rug for almost 4 months now. It looks great , easy to clean with a damp cloth and it's a breeze to vacuum.The fact that it looks like it has some water spots on it, gives it that blackboard look
I have it in front of my kitchen sink and it's really comfortable to stand on .
P.S., It has a rubber smell when you take it out of the box, but after a few days, you really don't smell it.

fits perfectly
The large size fits perfectly below a double sink cabinet and the dishwasher. It is very comfortable to stand on and does not slip.

French Bistro Comfort Mat is Perfect!
This mat is even better than I had imagined. It truly looks like a chalkboard with a French menu, but it is very cushy and comfortable to stand on. Everyone that comes over comments on how cool it looks in my French Country kitchen. I've never received anything from Ballard Designs that I didn't love! Always excellent quality.

Love the Mats!!
They add so much to our kitchen. Not only beautiful on the floor but very comfortable under your feet. Really makes standing for long periods of time more comfortable.

Beautiful addition to my kitchen.
Just renovated my kitchen in a french country design and this mat works perfectly. The touch of black was exactly what was needed. Beautiful design, very comfortable under foot. Highly recommend.

Terrific
I am really enjoying the French Bistro Comfort Mat. You can immediately tell the difference from standing on the hard floor to standing on the mat. (Also my beautiful Siamese cat also loves the mat and I have to ask her to move so I can get to the sink!)

Looks great feels so so
I love the look of this mat though it's not the most comfortable one out there. We have another comfort mat from a different store that feels much better. The chalkboard menu looks as good as it's pictured in the catalog. Also I've been told there's a spelling error on it.

Comfort and Style
Fabulous addition to my kitchen. Have the large in front of my stove and loved it so much that I purchased the smaller one for in front of the sink. I have had these for 3 months and they still look new with no wear marks. Add's a nice accent touch to the kitchen. Best of all they stay in place. Also, they take the abuse of my Black Labrador, she loves laying on them for her nap.

A splurge, but so worth it
I just love this mat, I ordered the large size to accommodate our large porcelain double sink area. The cushioning is great, the look is gorgeous with our gray/black granite and white cabinets. Everyone compliments it when they enter our kitchen.

Mats
I like the others received them with a rubber tire odor but once I put them down within a day it was gone. I love, love my mats. I highly recommend them.

Hasn't held up
Bought 2 mats for kitchen. Loved the look, cushioning very good. Unfortunately, after 6 months of weekly vacuuming the "decoration" has lifted off the mats from all 4 corners leaving a disheveled, curled appearance all around the edges. Getting ready to discard them as they look dreadful. IMO, they should have lasted longer.
