vacuuming ruins this beautiful rug
The rug is beautiful and thick (too thick for my bedroom closet and door to go over) Love the rubber backing but that does not make it reversible. It is surprisingly soft. Colors are beautiful -a blend of natural beige and gold. After the first vacuum I saw some of the braiding coming apart and it looks sloppy and defective. I am returning the rug. Very dissapointed. Oh, I have an Oreck -not the most powerful vacuum, so it's not the vacuum.

would not purchase this again
I bought these rugs for my den and kitchen. I thought the color would be great for hiding dirt for a high traffic area. I have 3 complaints:
1.Well, when the rugs arrived the smell was horrible. it was almost a mildew smell/chemical smell. I ordered a 8x10 and did not want to go to trouble of sending it back so I waited it out to see if smell went away and it has not.
2. the tassels were so tangled on the edges of the rugs. It looked nothing like the magazine picture
3. the rug has so much fibers that get on your floor, furniture, and clothes. I have to sweep everyday and use a lint roll brush constantly.
So my advise, is dont by this rug and waste the money like I did.

Very well made
This rug is true to its' description. I have another jute rug that pales in comparison with the richness of the expresso color and the quality material used. One caution is if you have a pet, the fringes will not survive for long. The fringes are very full and rather long which makes it attractive to my cat at least.

pretty but not durable
I love the look of this rug but am surprised at how badly it has worn. I am single, I live alone and only wear slippers or bare feet in the house. I've only had the rug for 8 months, however, it looks worn in the "high" traffic areas. Mostly in front of the couch and around the coffee table. Too bad, otherwise it's a fantastic looking rug. It's only a bargin if the quality is good. I guess I got what I paid for.

Good for a casual setting
I purchased the dark chocolate braided jute rug. Now,my house is very casual so it's not an issue, but it's not as high of quality that I expected. First, the rug was moist and had an odor when it arrived(which jute sometimes has an odor). The braids seem to fray easily so I have to cut the ones sticking up. Then the last, kind of negative is the tassels at the end: online they look neat, but not so. They're very bushy. I have other jute rugs that haven't had any of these issues, so that's where I've gotten my comparison. I will say, these are the things I might contend with, but I still like the rug; it serves it's purpose. Most who come into my home will never notice what's underfoot. Oh, it is very soft on your feet & a lot of rug for the price.

Perfect for any design taste!
I needed a rug for my dining room that could blend with antiques and more contemporary choices. It's in a high traffic area so it had to be durable, and I have two dogs so it needed to withstand many toenails! This rug has been great. There was no smell as sometimes jute has, even immediately after I opened it. And it is so soft that I walk on it barefoot, and my dogs even like to lay on it. It's very durable, and the fringe gives an otherwise more utilitarian choice a fun, playful aspect that softens the look of the dining room and allows it to be dressy but not too formal.

great purchase!
I purchased my 6x9 braided jute rug about a year ago when it was on sale. I had been coveting it forever! I only use it under a coffee table in our fam room in the 'winter' here in south Florida, so it does not get alot of foot traffic. Was concerned about the dog and cat, but actually, suprisingly, the cat lays on it all the time #he has claws and uses them!# and it has held up rather well. It is soft underfoot too. I do recall a damp smell when I first got it, but that dissipated quickly. The fringe does go every which way, but that is an expected characteristic of something that is of this nature. It is a little uneven on one edge, but again, it is part of 'the look'. Didn't get a rug pad and that doesn't seem to matter at all, stays in place under the coffee table just fine. Holds up to vacuuming weekly and does not require any special care, even the fringe has held up. Stains have not been an issue because we are a clean bunch and have been lucky #lol#! Overall, a nice purchase. I love the Ballard look and having this rug in my fam room adds decorating impact for small bucks! Would definitely purchase again, in fact, thinking about one for our master bedroom too, now that they are on sale!

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!
I purchased 8x10 in chocolate for my living room and 4x6 in natural for under dining room table and I love both! The natural was a bit darker then the sand/tan I expected but it is probably a good thing because the color works great! When I received it I left it layed out in the basement for 3 days to air out which worked perfectly and there is no smell at all now. I have to agree about the fringe with a previous review in that it is very messy and disheveled looking but in my opinion it adds character to the design aspect of the rug. I do have 1 regret....I wish I would have ordered another one before the "bring home Ballard" sale expired :-(

Love this rug!
I purchased the runner for my kitchen, as well as the 9 x 12 for my living room. They add such warmth to both spaces, and feel great underfoot. The color is a perfect neutral. They do shed a bit, but it seems to be subsiding (I've had them for about 3 weeks). I've received comments that they look much more expensive than they were!

Great value! - Just trim the fringe
I can't say enough about the value of these rugs. I purchased three of them in various sizes in the natural color. The texture really adds a nice touch to the rooms. As with others, I gave this product 4 stars and not 5, because of the fringe. It's long and matted, when you receive the rug. My solution: just trim the fringe to about 1.5- 2", and you've got a great rug for the price! No, it doesn't fray, if you trim it either. Best price I've seen for these types of rugs.

Looks great and feels great underfoot!
We bought this rug for a beach house and it looks perfect with our seagrass furniture. I was pleasantly surprised to find it so soft and cushiony even with bare feet! I think it will wear well which is important because this is a rental house and it will get lots of traffic. We'll see how it holds up.

OK rug for the price, darker than portrayed in catalog
This is the second time I purchased this rug. The first one did not withstand spills of colored drinks, but I always liked the way it looked and it was inexpensive so I replaced it. The 2nd one looks nothing like the first. It is much darker and doesnt look like the picture in the catalog either. I am hoping it will bleach out in time.

Great Value - great quality.
I never write product reviews. I am so pleased with this product, I had to submit one. I was really hestiant to purchase a natural fiber rug because the ones with a finer weave are not very forgiving with stains. But this rug has a prominent weave that will hide anything. It is surprisingly soft for a natural fiber, and the texture looks great in my dining room. Rugs are so pricey, and this rug really allows you to add style at a great value. Only thing to be aware of is the earthy smell of the rug. I am assuming it goes away over time, but I do notice it now (only been down a few days).

Went for the layered look
I purchased the 8' x 10' natural color for our basement which has dark wood flooring and layered a cowhide on top for an interesting look. This rug is of high quality and adds a softness to the hard edges of the wood.

Great product for the price
This is our second Ballard chocolate brown Jute rug. The color is very rich, hides everything and it feels great under-foot (even bare feet!). The braided trim dresses the jute up a bit too. It's the hardest working rug in our house...we have it in our high traffic kitchen area and it wears extremely well. Our last rug held up for several years. The best part is that when it starts to fade, the price is so reasonable that it's easy to justify replacing it with another just like it, as we did.

Returning this rug
I waited a long time to purchase this rug and was looking forward to putting this in my living room. I am returning this rug. The tassles look nothing like any of the pictures in the catalog or on the web-site. So disappointing! The tassles are so bad that they look like the "gorilla hair" mulch you put in your landscaping. I purchased the Suzanne Kasler jute rug instead.

Excellent for any room
I was a little hesitant to buy the rug based on the reviews of the smell. The rug arrived and had no apparent odor and it looks FABULOUS in my room. I actually tried it out in a few rooms and may order more because it goes with any decor.

Better than expected
I love this rug! It is thick and great color. It feels really good under your feet. It is not rough but not to soft either. It really ties my room together nicely! I bought it to put over carpet, that is showing some wear, and it really made a big difference. Everyone comments on it!

Look good but ravels when you try to vacuum
I like the looks of the rugs. I got two runners for the hallway and a large one for the family room. They look great but the weave comes undone in spots when you vacuum. I have used glue to repair, and that seems to be working, but after paying this kind of money I would not order again.

Great look
Used this in my dining room under table--looks great. Love the texture that it adds to the room. The look is relaxed but also classy. Had also purchased the smaller rugs to place in front of doors in entryway to coordinate, but they are too thick to go in front of doors. Used them in kitchen instead. Would definately recommend.

Really chunky and soft
It feels great on bare feet and the tassles are a little unruly, but I haven't exactly tried to brush them out or anything like that. I've got very formal wooden dining room furniture so this is a nice way to take it down a notch.

Great Rug!
There are so many Jute/Natural rugs out there now...this one is CLASSIC with just a little bit of updating to make it a great choice for today's style! Heavy, chunky, very well made....it does smell a little at first...it's natural of course. A little tough on bare feet for a bit but with wear and time, it feels so incredibly soft!
Great buy!
I bought it for my beach house in the runner and for a client in her Mud Room in the 5 x 8 size. Looks great!

Love my new rug!
I love love love my braided jute rug! It is super soft. I didnt know this when I bought it, but it comes with attached rubber backing so you do not need a rug pad. Nice surprise. There were some comments about the strong odor, mine had a vauge smell for all of two days. No big deal. The only thing I am concerned with is it has some places that the jute has come up from the braid, it came this way but I think it is part of it being a natural fiber. I am just going to be careful vaccuming. The wait to get the rug was long, but now that I have it definitely worth it! Everyone loves it that comes over and are shocked at the low price. Two different friends are now ordering it after seeing and feeling mine!

Lots of compliments
I love this rug and held up well to my 2 dogs for the past 2 months I have had it. I will say that the fringe looks nothing like it does in the picture...it is much fuller, longer, and not separated like it is shown. I love that the back is sprayed with a rubbery substance to keep it form slipping. However, that does have a slight odor, but it fades (I am the only one my household that has been able to smell it)
