Cloche Pendant
A pendant that grows on you

pic_ClochePendant

A cloche is a like a tiny greenhouse for your garden. The earliest ones were made in Italy around 1600 of bell-shaped glass. (The name "cloche" comes from the French word for bell.) It was a brilliantly simple idea that's still in use today. That's why we weren't surprised to find a classic metal and glass garden cloche tucked among the old jars at a Paris flea market. But what could we do with it? That's when the light went on.

As we stood there, in the middle of a Paris flea market, admiring an old gardening cloche, the proverbial light bulb went on above our heads. What if we could wire it and turn it into a unique lighting fixture? It took a few months to get the details just right, but our Cloche Pendant was worth the wait. When light shines through the opaque glass panes, it creates a warm, welcoming glow that you'll grow to love.

Italian Garden
500 years of decorating with style

Italian Garden

When designing villas and gardens for the illustrious Medici family of 15th century Italy, architect Van Utens would paint elaborate half-rounds of his plans for the Medicis to approve before building could begin. Our reproductions of Van Utens' designs were among the very first wall art ever offered by Ballard Designs. And over the last 25 years, they've become synonymous with Ballard style. So we're rolling back the prices on  these perennial Ballard favorites to help celebrate our 25th anniversary.

Once the Medici villas and gardens designed by Van Utens were complete, his original half-round plans were displayed above the doors leading to the gardens, so guests could see the entire view. The originals were eventually folded and tucked away in books, lost to memory for more than 500 years before finally being rediscovered. Our découpaged prints reproduce those masterpieces in wonderful detail, right down to the crease marks left from centuries of folding.

Provance Cocktail Table
Cocktail table as baby gift?

Cocktail Table

Eleven years ago, when our lead buyer went out on her first maternity leave, everyone scrambled for ideas on what to give her. What do you get the woman who buys everything? A shopping trip to Paris provided the answer: a century-old desk made from a salvaged French window. Over the years, that desk has become so popular around here, we decided to share it with you in the shape of our Provance Cocktail Table.

When you look through the clear, tempered glass top of our Provance Cocktail Table, you can see why the original desk that inspired it became so popular over the years at Ballard headquarters. It has real mullions and a latch just the like the antique, so you get an interesting background for anything you display on top. The colors are fun, too. But would it make a great baby gift? Absolutely. (Of course, we may be a little biased.)
